BRENNA + SCOTT

Ahh, what a whirlwind this year has been.. I have to say, this couple has had the most obstacles I’ve ever seen in getting their wedding to take place. Brenna and Scott hired me for their 2020 wedding in St. Louis earlier this year, only to have things reschedule, then cancel due to Covid. They are planning a party for 2021, but unfortunately, I was not available on their new date. They decide to plan a very small, intimate elopement for Colorado, where Scott’s brother could officiate the wedding. I quickly got on my computer and started researching. I cannot say how much I appreciate couples taking my advice on elopement locations, and fully trusting in my inspiration and advice. We landed on Rocky Mountain National Park. Unfortunately, a week before the wedding, a large fire hit that area and we were left scrambling again. I quickly got on Google again, and found Blue Lakes. We all changed our travel plans, and jumped on our flights. We were hit with yet ANOTHER road block when the day before the wedding was to take place, a HUGE winter storm hit and Brenna + Scott got stuck at the border of New Mexico. We ended up having to push their elopement out another day, and having to extend our travel plans to stay a bit longer. We FINALLY made it to the wedding day and it did NOT disappoint. The day was absolutely incredible. The winter storm brought so much beauty to Blue Lakes, and the ceremony vibe was so special because we all worked so hard to get to that point. I also feel so honored that Brenna and Scott were so dedicated to making things work with me, and SO appreciate their dedication.

A few of my favorite details from this wedding—Brenna and Scott picked up some Pendleton blankets to keep themselves and their guests warm. Scott and his brother wore scarves and boots. Their dog Lou was a riot because he’s still a puppy. When we first arrived, he was horrified by the snowman someone had left near the lake. He was not happy until he destroyed it. He also developed an affinity for humping one of the Pendleton blankets. Be sure to take a closer look at Scott’s Cartier ring… it’s dope.

I had so much fun exploring Breckenridge, and would LOVE to go back!

Some note from Brenna: “Scott and I planned to have our wedding in St. Louis in August 2020, but had to reschedule and then postpone until May. When it looked like the world might not be back together again by 2021, we decided to secretly elope in Colorado where Scott's brother could marry us. We immediately e-mailed Alix to see if she was available and within a few days she helped us plan our entire wedding in Estes Park for just a few weeks later. We loved that this wedding was going to be intimate, relaxed, and outside. A week before the wedding we got the news that Rocky Mountain National Park was affected by the wildfires and had to choose a new location. We landed on Blue Lakes in Breckenridge and found the perfect cabin nearby to spend the week at.

On our journey to Colorado the night before what was supposed to be our wedding day, we were hit with a blizzard and spent the night sleeping in our truck waiting for the road to re-open. At this point all we could do was laugh and go with the flow! Alix and Scott's brother and sister in law are some of the most gracious people we could have been surrounded by and were able to switch their travel plans so we could have the wedding the following day.

Our blizzard adventure turned out to be the biggest silver lining because October 27th was the most gorgeous day. Blue Lakes was covered in snow and seemed like a dream. We were able to spend the day of the wedding writing our vows, drinking chai bourbon lattes, making a cheese board, and hanging out with family.

Chris married us in the most personal and intimate ceremony, and his wife, Kelsey, read a beautiful reading and wrangled our puppy Lou. We laughed and cried and took breaks during the ceremony to warm up and recover. We popped a bottle of champagne immediately after and watched the moon rise perfectly between the mountains. It was the most amazing day of our lives and we are so happy to finally be Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell!”
